Reject Mekedatu dam project, TN CM urges Modi
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reject Karnataka”s proposal to build a dam across Cauvery river at Mekedatu.
In a letter to Modi, text of which was released to the media, Palaniswami sought Modi”s personal intervention to deny permission to the proposal of the Cauvery Neeravari Nigama Niyamita of Karnataka in grant of environmental clearance for Mekedatu balancing reservoir and drinking water project.
“This action of Karnataka in seeking environmental clearance for Mekedatu project is in utter violation of the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and the February 16, 2018, judgment of the Supreme Court. I request you to direct the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to reject the proposal of Karnataka,” Palaniswami said.
