Tamil Nadu has achieved a historic milestone in organ donations, recording the highest number of cadaver donations in a month, with 30 donors from January 1 to 29, 2024. The Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN) stated that this achievement marks the highest number of donations in a month since the inception of the cadaver transplantation program in 2008.
The success is attributed to a multi-pronged approach, including efforts to spread awareness and participation across the state, involving both public and private hospitals. The State’s decision to accord State honors to the mortal remains of organ donors has significantly contributed to the program’s success, creating a positive impact and encouraging more people to pledge for organ donation.
