The first phase of Ramayapatnam Port, situated in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district, is nearing completion with the south and north breakwater works almost finished. The port, built at a cost of Rs 3,736 crore, will have four berths with a cargo handling capacity of 34 million tonnes per year in its initial phase. When fully operational, it will feature 19 berths with a total cargo handling capacity of 138 million metric tons annually.
The project, overseen by the Ramayapatnam Port Development Corporation Limited under the AP Maritime Board, is part of the state’s initiative to develop four new greenfield ports. Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy reviewed the progress during a meeting at his official residence.
The Machilipatnam Port, with an estimated cost of Rs 5,155 crore, will also have 16 berths, while the Mulapeta Port will comprise 10 berths. Additionally, fishing harbors across various districts are being developed as part of the state’s comprehensive maritime infrastructure plan.
