Raman Singh Unanimously Elected Speaker of Chhattisgarh Assembly
Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, a senior BJP MLA, has been unanimously elected as the Speaker of the state legislative assembly. The 71-year-old filed his nomination on Sunday, expressing his commitment to fostering unity in the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha. The first session of the newly-elected assembly commenced in Raipur.
The Congress, ruling the state for the past five years, suffered a setback in the recent assembly polls, with the BJP securing 54 out of 90 seats. Raman Singh, known for transforming Chhattisgarh during his 15-year tenure as Chief Minister, has now assumed the role of Speaker in the state assembly.
