Meteorological officials in Rajasthan have reported that the state experienced its lowest August rainfall in 85 years. In August, the state witnessed 80% less rainfall than the average, marking the third time in 117 years that August had recorded such low rainfall. The average August rainfall in Rajasthan is typically around 155.7mm, but this year, the state only received approximately 30.9mm of rainfall.
The officials attributed this decline to the influence of El Nino, which is expected to persist through September. Ten out of 31 days in August experienced dry weather across the state, with some districts receiving minimal to no rainfall.
Ganganagar and Barmer were among the districts that received the least rainfall, while Karauli recorded the highest, albeit still below average. The dry weather has raised concerns about crop damage in western Rajasthan, and the Agriculture Department is preparing for damage assessments.
