Punjab Police Intensifies Efforts Against Drug Trafficking Networks
In the ongoing battle against drug trafficking, Punjab Police has shifted its focus from street-level arrests to targeting the big players behind the narcotics trade.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced the shift in strategy, emphasizing the dismantling of high-level drug networks, including suppliers and kingpins. Following the success of the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, which led to thousands of arrests and significant drug seizures, the police are now using intelligence, public tips, and interrogation reports to identify the key drug distributors.
Additionally, the formation of mohalla committees in urban areas, inspired by the Village Defence Committees in rural regions, will further empower local communities to join the fight.
The public’s involvement, along with the use of the ‘Safe Punjab Helpline,’ has been crucial in helping police make significant strides against the drug menace.
