Princess Diana’s Iconic Black Sheep Sweater Fetches Over $1.1 Million at Auction
A red sweater featuring a black sheep among rows of white ones, famously worn by the late Princess Diana, has been sold for more than $1.1 million at an auction held by Sotheby’s in New York. Diana donned the sweater in 1981 during a polo match with Prince Charles.
The item gained historical significance as it was mentioned in a letter from Buckingham Palace to Warm and Wonderful, the British luxury knitwear brand behind the sweater, requesting a repair or replacement due to damage. Princess Diana received a replacement sweater in 1983, which she also wore to a polo match. While Sotheby’s estimated the sweater’s value at $50,000 to $80,000, frenzied bidding led to its remarkable sale.
