Prachanda Secures Vote of Confidence Amidst Opposition Boycott

Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, commonly known as Prachanda, clinched a vote of confidence in Parliament despite the boycott by the main opposition Nepali Congress. Amidst allegations against Deputy Prime Minister Rabi Lamichhane, Prachanda secured 157 votes out of 275, ensuring a majority in the House of Representatives.

The Nepali Congress abstained from voting, demanding an investigation into Lamichhane’s purported involvement in a financial scandal. Despite hurdles and the withdrawal of support from a coalition partner, Prachanda’s government surpassed the required threshold of 138 votes, reaffirming his leadership amid political challenges. This marks Prachanda’s fourth successful confidence vote since assuming office, highlighting the fluidity of Nepal’s political landscape and the resilience of his administration.
