Prachanda Forms New Alliance with Oli’s Party, Ending Nepali Congress Partnership

Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has opted to forge a fresh alliance with former premier K.P. Sharma Oli’s party, terminating a 15-month partnership with the Nepali Congress. The split follows escalating differences between the leadership of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) and the Nepali Congress, leading to the dissolution of their coalition.

Prachanda’s decision to align with Oli’s Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) signifies a significant political realignment, given Oli’s previous criticism of Prachanda’s leadership.

The formation of a new cabinet, expected to be smaller in size, is slated for Monday afternoon, signaling a shift in Nepal’s political landscape. Rifts within the Maoist Centre and Nepali Congress deepened over various issues, including budget allocation and leadership appointments. The emergence of this new alliance reshapes Nepal’s political dynamics, highlighting the fluidity and complexity of its parliamentary system.
