In the aftermath of Deepavali celebrations, the Chennai Corporation is actively engaged in a robust waste collection drive, with expectations soaring to surpass 200 tonnes of cracker waste on Monday. Corporation Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan personally oversaw the specialized operation aimed at efficiently clearing cracker waste across the city.

Inspecting the collection point at Akkarai in the Sholinganallur zone, Radhakrishnan collaborated with Urbaser Sumeet and GCC employees to ensure the meticulous execution of the cleanup initiative. Highlighting the hazardous nature of cracker waste, Radhakrishnan emphasized the dedicated efforts of 19,063 workers who are methodically collecting waste from residents’ doorsteps and streets, placing it in separate gunny bags.

The ambitious drive is slated for completion by November 14, underscoring the city’s commitment to maintaining cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
