Police Dog Helps Capture Fugitive Two Weeks After Prison Escape
A police dog named Yoda played a crucial role in recapturing a fugitive, Danelo Cavalcante, who had escaped from a Pennsylvania prison on August 31. The escapee, convicted of killing his former girlfriend in 2021, was found in a thick forest area in Chester County.
More than 500 officers had been involved in the intensive manhunt. Yoda, a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois, was part of the tactical teams that located Cavalcante. When officers confronted the fugitive, Yoda prevented him from reaching a stolen rifle.
Cavalcante was apprehended without any shots fired and is now facing a felony escape charge. The police dog’s role was highlighted as essential in the successful capture of the escaped prisoner.
