PM Modi, Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi Wish People of Tamil Nadu on Tamil New Year
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi greeted the people of Tamil Nadu on the occasion of Tamil New Year. Both leaders shared their warm wishes on Sunday, as Tamil families across the state celebrated the beginning of the new year, known as Puthandu.
Prime Minister Modi posted his message on social media early in the morning. He wished happiness, peace, and prosperity for all Tamil people. He praised Tamil culture and said the Tamil community has made rich contributions to India’s history, language, and tradition. He also said he hopes the new year brings success to every household.
Rahul Gandhi also sent his wishes through a social media post. He greeted the people of Tamil Nadu with the words “Iniya Puthandu Nalvazhthukkal,” which means “Happy New Year” in Tamil. He said Tamil Nadu holds a special place in India because of its deep culture, strong values, and proud history. He thanked the people of the state for their love and support.
Several other political leaders also joined in and sent their wishes. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin led celebrations in the state and took part in traditional events. He greeted people in person and reminded them about the importance of unity, peace, and progress. Many ministers and government officials also took time to visit temples and community gatherings.
Tamil families celebrated the day with joy. They cleaned their homes, decorated doorways with mango leaves and flowers, and cooked special dishes like mango pachadi, which mixes sweet, sour, and bitter flavors to reflect all parts of life. People wore new clothes, visited temples, and met family members to exchange blessings.
The Tamil New Year marks the first day of the Tamil month Chithirai. It is a time for new beginnings, and many people also start new business ventures or school plans on this day.
By sending their wishes, both national and local leaders showed respect for Tamil culture and connected with the people of the state in a meaningful way.
