PG Medical Students at Egmore Eye Hospital Struggle Without Salaries for Six Months
First-year service postgraduate (PG) medical students at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology and Government Ophthalmic Hospital (RIO-GOH) in Egmore are grappling with a six-month delay in receiving their salaries. This delay has placed significant financial strain on these doctors, who have resorted to taking loans to manage their household expenses.
Both male and female doctors have been affected by the non-disbursement of salaries, and this issue is not new, as a section of PGs has been facing similar delays for the past three years. Despite making appeals to the authorities, the situation has not improved. Recently, salaries for the period from October 2022 to January 2023 were finally disbursed in late July after repeated appeals.
