Peru has extended a state of emergency for 60 days in many parts of the country due to the imminent danger posed by the arrival of El Nino and seasonal rains, as reported in the government gazette. The extension applies to 855 districts across 18 departments and aims to implement immediate measures to reduce the high risk associated with El Nino.
The decision comes following a warning from the National Institute of Civil Defence about the imminent danger of heavy downpours. The emergency measures include activities such as river declogging, riverside defense, and canal and drain cleaning to mitigate potential disasters caused by extreme weather.
