Palestinian Health Ministry Reports Alarming Casualty Figures Amidst Ongoing Conflict
The Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza disclosed on Monday that the Palestinian death toll has reached 15,899 since the commencement of the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip on October 7. In a press conference in Khan Yunis, Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qedra highlighted that over 42,000 people have been injured, with 70% of the victims being children and women.
Al-Qedra accused Israel of deliberately targeting hospitals and health facilities, resulting in the destruction of 56 health institutions and the arrest of 35 medical personnel. The health system in Gaza is now described as incapacitated. Al-Qedra called on the United Nations and the World Health Organization to safeguard medical facilities, and personnel, and ensure the safe passage of essential supplies.
In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) contended that they are targeting Hamas, not the people of Gaza, accusing Hamas of using civilians as shields. The conflict has escalated since October 7, initiated by an unprecedented attack by Hamas on Israeli towns.
