A court in Pakistan has dismissed murder abetment charges against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, as confirmed by his lawyer. Khan had been charged with abetting the murder of Supreme Court lawyer Abdul Razzaq, who was killed in a drive-by shooting in Quetta in June. The victim’s son had accused Khan of being involved in his father’s murder.
The dismissal comes as a victory for Khan, with his lawyer Naeem Haider Panjutha stating that he has emerged victorious against false allegations. Razzaq, before his death, had submitted an application seeking a treason case against Khan for dissolving Parliament unconstitutionally after losing a vote of confidence in April 2022. The case hearing was scheduled for the day of the killing, but it could not proceed due to the absence of the bench and a legal fraternity boycott.
