Pakistan Commemorates 1998 Nuclear Tests as Symbol of National Resilience

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commemorated Pakistan’s 1998 nuclear tests, highlighting its significance in establishing a “credible minimum deterrence” against regional threats. Sharif declared Tuesday a public holiday, emphasizing the collective effort that led to Pakistan becoming the seventh nuclear nation in the world. While paying tribute to leaders like Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Sharif’s statement notably omitted mentioning Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan’s pivotal role. Acting President Yusuf Raza Gilani reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to global peace and stability, emphasizing the nation’s unwavering resolve in defense.
