Pakistan Bar Council Demands Unbiased Probe into Judicial Interference

The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has issued a fervent call for the establishment of a judicial commission, comprised of sitting Supreme Court judges, to investigate allegations of interference by powerful intelligence agencies in judicial affairs. This demand, underscored by the necessity of an impartial inquiry devoid of external influence, reflects the gravity of the situation. The PBC’s stance gains momentum as former Supreme Court Bar Association president Abid Shahid Zuberi petitions to join the suo motu proceedings on the matter.

Moreover, the council condemns calls for the resignation of Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, denouncing such actions as divisive and detrimental to judicial integrity. As the judiciary grapples with allegations of interference highlighted by the March 25 letter from six Islamabad High Court judges, the PBC emphasizes the crucial role of judges in upholding the legal system’s foundation of independence and impartiality. The resolution urges expeditious adjudication of the suo motu case by the Supreme Court, emphasizing the imperative nature of a thorough investigation to safeguard the rule of law and citizens’ fundamental rights.
