Pahalgam Terror Attack: Nirmala Sitharaman Ends US-Peru Trip Early

India’s Defence Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, stopped her official visit to the United States and Peru after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. She decided to return to India immediately to take control of the situation and support the armed forces.

Sitharaman was attending important defence meetings and international events in both countries. During her trip, she planned to discuss global security, defence cooperation, and India’s role in strengthening military ties. However, when she received news about the attack in Pahalgam, she quickly changed her schedule.

The attack killed several Indian security personnel and injured others. Terrorists targeted a convoy of soldiers in the area. The Indian Army and local police responded fast and began search operations to catch the attackers. Senior officials in New Delhi informed Sitharaman about the incident. She then spoke to military leaders and ordered updates on the situation.

Sitharaman immediately informed U.S. and Peruvian officials about her decision. She thanked them for their cooperation and postponed her remaining meetings. Her team arranged a quick return to India so she could review security measures and meet the families of the victims.

After landing in India, the Defence Minister visited Army Headquarters. She met top military officers and received a detailed report on the attack. She also gave instructions to strengthen security in sensitive areas and improve coordination between security forces.

“The loss of our brave soldiers is heartbreaking,” Sitharaman said in a short statement. “I offer my deepest condolences to their families. We will not tolerate such violence, and we will take all steps to ensure the safety of our troops.”

The government has launched a high-level investigation to find out how the attack happened. Officials are also reviewing intelligence reports and planning stronger action against terrorist groups in the region.

By cutting her trip short, Nirmala Sitharaman showed the government’s strong response to the attack and her commitment to national security.
