Oxygen levels improved in Coimbatore water bodies says Coimbatore corporation authorities

Coimbatore corporation authorities in Tamil Nadu are considering expanding the number of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in the city’s water bodies to improve oxygen levels. This decision follows the success of STPs in increasing oxygen levels in two existing water bodies. In 2018, the corporation installed a one Million liters per day (MLD) STP at Periyankulam and Valankulam.

The initiative aims to enhance water quality and promote the ecological balance in Coimbatore’s water bodies. The installation of additional STPs is expected to further improve oxygen levels and support the overall health of the aquatic ecosystem. This move reflects the corporation’s commitment to sustainable water management and environmental conservation.

The expansion of STPs demonstrates a proactive approach toward addressing water pollution and ensuring the well-being of the city’s water resources. The project highlights the importance of wastewater treatment in preserving and revitalizing water bodies.
