Owaisi Warns Against ‘One Nation One Election’ Proposal
Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, voiced strong opposition to the ‘One Nation One Election’ (ONOE) proposal, warning that it could erode federalism in India. Owaisi, representing Hyderabad in the Lok Sabha, argued that frequent elections serve as a check on governments, but ONOE would eliminate this accountability mechanism.
He highlighted constitutional concerns with the proposal, asserting that it could transform India into a one-party state by removing the need for governments to address public grievances for extended periods.
