Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru witnessed a significant gold seizure within a two-day timeframe, with airport customs authorities apprehending three passengers, one of whom was a Malaysian national. On Friday and Saturday, these individuals were taken into custody for gold smuggling attempts. An Indian-origin female passenger arriving from Kuala Lumpur attempted to smuggle 300.95 grams of gold, valued at Rs 17.9 lakh, in paste form concealed within her blouse, but she was intercepted.
Another female passenger of Malaysian origin, also arriving from Kuala Lumpur, concealed 578.27 grams of gold, valued at Rs 34.4 lakh, in paste form within her rectum. Additionally, an Indian-origin passenger arriving from Kuwait was caught attempting to smuggle 40 cut pieces of gold with a net weight of 254 grams, worth Rs 15,26,565. These gold pieces were concealed in packets of dry fruits, and authorities also recovered an iPhone 14 pro max valued at Rs 1,49,900.
