NSUI Protests UGC-NET Cancellation, Demands Probe
Members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), led by national president Varun Choudhary, were detained during a protest outside Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s residence in New Delhi on June 20. The protest stemmed from the sudden cancellation of the UGC-NET examination by the Union education ministry, citing concerns over the exam’s integrity. NSUI members demanded a ban on the National Testing Agency (NTA) and a thorough investigation into alleged instances of paper leaks.
Slogans against corruption within the NTA and criticism of the Education Minister’s perceived inaction resonated during the protest. Varun Choudhary’s symbolic act of throwing a bag filled with counterfeit currency underscored the seriousness of their allegations. Additionally, the protesters called for scrutiny into reported irregularities in the NEET-UG examination, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in educational testing processes.
