Notorious Tamil Nadu Criminal Escapes Custody at Viyyur Jail

Balamurugan, a notorious criminal wanted in 53 cases across Tamil Nadu and Kerala, escaped from police custody at Viyyur Central Jail on May 17. He managed to flee by pushing open the police van door while being returned from court around 9 p.m.

Known for his history of escaping custody, Balamurugan was apprehended in September 2023 for a robbery in Marayur. The Thrissur City police have initiated an extensive manhunt to recapture him.
