North Korea Likely to Attempt Spy Satellite Launch Between October 10-26

North Korea is expected to make another attempt to launch a military spy satellite between October 10 and 26, according to projections by the South Korean state-run think tank Korea Institute for National Unification (KINU).

This window coincides with North Korea’s 78th founding anniversary of its ruling Workers’ Party on October 10 and China’s hosting of an international Belt and Road forum later in the month. North Korea had previously attempted to launch a spy satellite in May and August, both of which ended in failure. South Korea also plans to launch its first military surveillance satellite in November.
