NGT Asks Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary for Status Report on Cooum, Adyar River Restorations
The southern bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Chief Secretary of the Tamil Nadu government to submit a report on the restoration status of the Cooum and Adyar rivers, as well as the Buckingham Canal in Chennai. The Chennai River Restoration Trust (CRRT) informed the NGT that these restoration projects were the top priority for the Tamil Nadu government and involved various activities carried out by several line departments.
As the Chief Secretary serves as the chairperson of the CRRT, the NGT has requested an update on the project’s implementation status and the timeline for the restoration of these water bodies.
