New York Declares State of Emergency Amid Severe Flooding

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency for New York City, Long Island, and the surrounding areas as torrential storms brought heavy rains and flash flooding, disrupting transportation and daily life. The remnants of Storm Ophelia deluged New York City with heavy rain, causing widespread flooding, particularly in Brooklyn.

The subway system experienced suspensions and delays due to flooded stations and tracks. Mayor Eric Adams urged residents to shelter in place during the storm, emphasizing the danger of the weather, with the possibility of up to eight inches of rain before the situation improves. The severe weather also prompted the postponement of a baseball game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets.
