The Chennai bypass is set to receive a new vehicular subway near the Vanagaram toll plaza, aimed at improving safety in an accident-prone zone. According to officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the subway, estimated to cost ₹50 crore, is expected to be completed within a year. The location, identified as a black spot due to frequent accidents, will benefit from this infrastructure upgrade.
Currently, vehicles crossing the bypass are forced to travel 1.1 km to the nearest subway, resulting in congestion and occasional accidents. Despite demands from residents for additional median openings, previous attempts caused more accidents, leading to their closure. Additionally, to prevent traffic congestion at the Vanagaram plaza, two extra toll lanes were recently added.
