New Poll Shows Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre Leading as Preferred Canadian Prime Minister

A new Ipsos poll reveals that Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is the preferred choice for Canadian prime minister, with incumbent Justin Trudeau trailing behind. Poilievre’s popularity has seen a five-point increase from the previous year, while Trudeau’s approval remains static at 31 percent. According to Darrell Bricker, CEO of Ipsos, Canadians are expressing dissatisfaction with various aspects, including the country’s direction, the cost of living, housing accessibility, healthcare, and inflation.

Jagmeet Singh, the leader of the NDP, has experienced a four-point drop in popularity since September 2022, standing at 22 percent. The Conservative Party has garnered substantial support outside of downtown areas, particularly in suburban regions. While the Conservatives may have the potential to form a majority government, their stronger backing in Ontario suggests a narrow margin, Bricker noted.

In Atlantic Canada, Poilievre holds a significant 20-point lead over Trudeau, with 48 percent of respondents favoring him as the best choice for prime minister. Canada is scheduled to hold its next federal election in 2025.
