NCB Seizes 54 kg of Methamphetamine in Chennai; Unravels Drug Smuggling Network
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) made a significant seizure of 54 kg of methamphetamine in Chennai, unraveling a suspected drug smuggling network. The operation began when a Sri Lankan national named Udayakumar was questioned on suspicion of attempting to smuggle methamphetamine to Sri Lanka, resulting in the confiscation of 2 kg of the drug from his possession.
In the subsequent investigation, the NCB arrested Akbar Ali of Perambur and discovered 54 kg of methamphetamine concealed in a hideout. The contraband had been sourced from Myanmar through Moreh in Manipur and was intended for smuggling into Sri Lanka. In 2023, the NCB’s Chennai zone seized a total of 65.061 kg of methamphetamine and 3,338.018 kg of ganja, leading to the arrest of 67 suspects involved in the drug network.
