Narcotics Smuggler Killed by Gunmen in J&K’s Kupwara District
In Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, unidentified gunmen have killed a notorious narcotics smuggler named Mukhtar Ahmad Shah. The incident occurred during the night of August 28-29, 2023, in the Haridal area of PP Teetwal Karnah. Swiftly responding to the sound of gunshots, local police, and an Army unit launched a search operation, leading to the discovery of Shah’s lifeless body in the village of Pingla Haridal.
Mukhtar Ahmad Shah, aged 42 and hailing from Panjtaran Karnah, was a prominent narcotics smuggler with strong connections among fellow smugglers in the region. He had been involved in two recent cases of narcotics and weapons smuggling and had confessed to orchestrating significant cross-border transportation of illicit goods.
His family, including his brother Sadiq Shah, has a history of involvement in similar criminal activities, with Sadiq Shah being a terrorist commander and supplier of narcotics and weapons from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK). Police suspect rival narcotics smuggling gang members or rival terror operatives to be responsible for Shah’s killing and have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.
