Union Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan Nadda, has launched a new patient referral portal for AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences). This portal aims to make it easier for patients to get referred between different AIIMS hospitals across India.
The new system will help connect patients with the best healthcare services, improving access to treatment, especially for those living in remote areas.
The portal will start with a pilot project connecting AIIMS Delhi and AIIMS Bilaspur. This means that patients from Bilaspur can now easily get referred to AIIMS Delhi if they need specialized care that is not available locally. Similarly, patients in Delhi who need treatment in Bilaspur can also be referred. The goal is to make healthcare more accessible and efficient, ensuring that patients receive the right treatment at the right time.
The new system will help doctors at both AIIMS hospitals share patient information quickly and securely. This allows healthcare providers to better understand a patient’s medical history, making it easier for them to decide on the best treatment plan. The portal will also allow doctors to consult with each other, providing better support and collaboration between different medical teams.
In the past, patients often faced long waiting times or had to travel long distances to access healthcare services. With the new referral system, patients can now receive referrals faster, which means they won’t have to wait as long to see specialists or get the care they need. This new system is expected to reduce delays in treatment and improve overall patient outcomes.
The referral portal is just the beginning of a larger plan to connect more AIIMS hospitals across the country. The government hopes that, over time, this system will be expanded to include all AIIMS centers, allowing for a nationwide network of patient referrals.
By launching this portal, Dr. Nadda and the government aim to improve healthcare delivery in India, making it more efficient, patient-friendly, and accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live. The pilot program with AIIMS Delhi and Bilaspur will serve as a model for future expansion to other AIIMS hospitals across the country.
