Mysuru Bandh: Protests Erupt Against Amit Shah’s Remarks
The city of Mysuru witnessed a significant bandh on January 7, with city bus services disrupted and shops in the Central Business District shuttered, following a call by Dalit and backward class organizations. Protesters gathered at the suburban bus stand, blocking roads and halting KSRTC buses from operating outside the city.
Demonstrations included Congress leaders, led by B.J. Vijaykumar, marching along D. Devaraj Urs Road, and activists burning an effigy of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The bandh, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., received strong support, with many businesses voluntarily closing in solidarity. Karnataka State Backward Classes’ Awareness Forum president Shivaram emphasized the necessity of the protest to safeguard the Constitution, despite the inconvenience caused. KSRTC officials awaited police clearance to resume operations as the protest called for Mr. Shah’s removal from the Union Cabinet.
