Myanmar Rocked by 36 Aftershocks After 7.7 Magnitude Earthquake

Myanmar is still reeling from a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck the country last Friday, followed by 36 aftershocks, some as strong as 7.5.

The quake caused massive destruction, killing around 1,700 people, injuring 3,400, and leaving 300 missing. The earthquake hit Myanmar’s Mandalay region, with tremors also felt in neighboring countries like Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and China.

Rescue efforts continue as international aid pours in, with significant damage reported to buildings and historical sites in Mandalay, including the Mandalay Palace and Mahamuni Pagoda. The disaster has led to road closures and airport shutdowns, complicating relief efforts.

Thailand also suffered casualties, with 10 deaths and many injuries, prompting the declaration of a state of emergency in Bangkok. India has swiftly provided assistance to Myanmar, sending rescue teams and humanitarian aid to help the affected population.
