A technical glitch in the signalling system near Vikhroli station brought Mumbai’s suburban train services on the main line to a halt during rush hour on June 13 morning. The malfunction, which occurred on the UP fast line towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), resulted in delays of up to an hour for some local trains.
Overcrowding became severe at stations as trains ran behind schedule, causing inconvenience to commuters trying to reach their destinations. Despite efforts to rectify the issue promptly by railway officials, the disruption led to chaotic scenes with commuters resorting to walking on tracks or seeking alternative transportation methods to reach their offices on time. The incident sparked frustration among regular commuters, highlighting the critical dependence and challenges faced by Mumbai’s extensive suburban railway network, which serves over 30 lakh passengers daily across its vast network.
