Victoria, Australia, faced a series of major bushfires on Monday, leading to warnings and evacuation preparations. In Briagolong, Gippsland Region, a bushfire not yet under control had already destroyed one residence and burned 5,000 hectares with a 42 km perimeter. Residents in Cobbannah, Glenaladale, and Moornapa were advised to prepare for evacuation and stay vigilant, as several other bushfires remained active in the area.
While milder weather conditions allowed firefighters to contain some flames, officials cautioned that the situation remains challenging, particularly in the Mallee Weather District, which declared a total fire ban due to high temperatures and hot winds, potentially elevating fire risks in East Gippsland in the coming days.
