Chennai Corporation is set to construct a multi-level parking lot to accommodate the increased number of cars and motorcycles expected to visit Khader Nawaz Khan Road after the pedestrian plaza’s completion. The parking facility, which will provide space for 100 motorcycles and 45 cars, will complement the existing parking spaces in the plaza. Additionally, electric vehicle charging points will be installed in the plaza, with work scheduled to begin in August.
Completion of underground work, including sewer and stormwater drains, is expected by August, after which construction of the pedestrian plaza will commence, with completion slated for June 2025. The civic body is also planning to enhance the plaza’s aesthetics by installing proper lighting, art works, and organized vending spaces. Furthermore, efforts are underway to make the plaza more accessible for persons with disabilities and senior citizens, with the possibility of creating additional facilities to achieve this goal.
