Mosque Committees in Assam’s Karimganj District Ban Burials for Drug Users and Usurers
In Assam’s Karimganj district, three mosque committees in the Maizdihi area have jointly decided not to allow the burial of individuals who have died from drug consumption and those who charge excessive interest rates. The unanimous resolution reflects the community’s commitment to combating the dangers of drug abuse and usury.
The decision also extends to the relatives of those engaged in these illegal activities, who will not be permitted to be buried in the Maizdihi cemetery. The restrictions apply to various recreational substances, including heroin, yaba pills, and cannabis, as well as illegal money lenders charging high-interest rates. Additionally, there is widespread support for a social boycott of individuals involved in these crimes.
