Mixed Weather Conditions in Jammu and Kashmir: Improvement in Jammu, Chilling Cold in Kashmir
While Jammu experienced a significant improvement in night temperatures, Kashmir continued to endure bone-chilling cold with sub-zero temperatures, as reported by the Meteorological Department. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, Gulmarg at minus 3.2, and Pahalgam at minus 3.9. Meanwhile, Leh in Ladakh had a chilling minus 9, Kargil at minus 7.3, and Drass at minus 10.9.
In contrast, Jammu city reported a relatively milder 6.1 degrees Celsius, Katra at 7.2, Batote at 3, Bhaderwah at 1, and Banihal at minus 0.4 as the night’s lowest temperatures. The ongoing 40-day period known as ‘Chillai Kalan,’ which started on December 21, has not witnessed any snowfall this winter, raising concerns about potential water scarcity in the coming summer months.
