Mass Stranding of Whales at Cheynes Beach in Western Australia: 51 Whales Found Dead
Western Australia’s Department of Biodiversity, Conservation, and Attractions (DBCA) confirmed on Wednesday that 51 stranded whales died overnight at Cheynes Beach in the state’s southwest. Efforts are underway to save the remaining 46 whales by the Parks and Wildlife Service personnel, registered volunteers, and other organizations, as they try to return them to deeper waters throughout the day.
The DBCA has issued a safety advisory, urging the public to stay away from the beach due to potential risks. The incident also triggered a shark alert issued by the state government, as the presence of dead and injured whales may attract sharks closer to the shore. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation to mitigate further harm to marine life and ensure public safety.
