Mass Protests Erupt in Nepal After Journalist’s Tragic Death

Outrage swept through Nepal’s media community following the death of journalist Suresh Rajak, who was allegedly burned alive during a violent pro-monarchy protest in Kathmandu’s Tinkune area.

Journalists gathered at Maitighar Mandala to protest, demanding justice for Rajak’s death and condemning the violence that targeted the media. Eyewitnesses, including Ramkrishna Bhandari of Kantipur Television, described how protesters threatened and attacked media personnel while causing extensive damage.

In the aftermath of the violence, a curfew was lifted in Baneshwar-Tinkune, and police made multiple arrests, including key pro-monarchy leaders. Tensions had escalated when protesters clashed with security forces, resulting in two deaths and 45 injuries.

The protests, demanding the reinstatement of the monarchy, led to widespread destruction, and the police were forced to take strict actions. Social media footage revealed further chaos as protesters seized police firearms and launched violent attacks.
