Manipur Hands Over Student Murder Case to CBI Amid Security Operation
The Manipur government has transferred the murder case of two missing students, Phijam Hemjit (20) and Hijam Linthoingambi (17), to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after their photos surfaced on social media. The students had gone missing since July. Security forces have initiated a search operation while state police collaborate with central security agencies to investigate the case.
Manipur has been grappling with ethnic violence since May, with 175 people killed, 1,108 injured, and 32 unaccounted for as per the Inspector General of Manipur Police (Operations) I.K. Muivaa. The government assures swift action against the perpetrators and encourages the public to let authorities handle the investigation.
