Man Sentenced to Jail for Harassing Lady Police Officer with Over 300 Calls
A Kerala court has handed down a significant sentence to a man who harassed a lady police officer by making more than 300 calls within a 48-hour period. The Ernakulam Additional Judicial Magistrate court sentenced the offender, identified as Jose, to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for the sexual harassment offence.
In addition, he received a one-year sentence of simple imprisonment and a Rs 5,000 fine for causing nuisance. The court stipulated that both sentences will run concurrently. Jose had repeatedly called a ‘Vanitha’ (all women) police station’s official landline from his personal mobile number, subjecting the officer to lewd remarks.
The harassment took place over July 10-11, 2019, forcing station personnel to put down the receiver to halt the calls. This verdict underscores the seriousness with which such actions are treated by the judiciary.
