Man Arrested with Over 1 Kg of Brown Sugar in West Bengal’s Malda District
The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a man in the Malda district near the Indo-Bangladesh border with a significant quantity of banned narcotics. Bhaskar Mondal, alias Dhormu (30), was apprehended at his residence in Shahbazpur village, which is located close to the border. The police seized over one kilogram of brown sugar from his possession, estimated to have a market value of approximately Rs 20 lakh.
While Mondal had no previous criminal record, his sudden rise in lifestyle in recent months had raised suspicions among neighbors. The joint operation by CID and local police suggests that Mondal might be connected to a larger narcotics racket with cross-border links that have become active in the region.
This marks the second significant success against the narcotics trade in the Kaliyaganj Police Station area, with a total of five individuals arrested and over 2.5 kilograms of brown sugar seized.
