Mamata Banerjee Appeals for Postponement of New Criminal Laws
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to defer the implementation of three new criminal laws scheduled for July 1.
In her letter, Banerjee emphasized the need for a thorough Parliamentary review of these laws, which include replacements for the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act from the colonial era. She argued that delaying their rollout would allow for comprehensive scrutiny and ensure these laws effectively serve the goal of delivering swift justice and enhancing judicial management across India.
