Maldives Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer Embarks on Official Visit to India
Maldivian Foreign Minister, Moosa Zameer, arrived in New Delhi for his first bilateral official visit to India, expressing anticipation for productive discussions and experiencing India’s vibrant culture. During his visit, he is scheduled to meet with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to discuss bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) welcomed Moosa Zameer, highlighting the significance of his visit in enhancing bilateral cooperation between India and the Maldives.
The visit comes amid India’s commitment to replace its military personnel from the Maldives before May 10. Recent discussions between India and the Maldives have emphasized the smooth replacement of Indian military personnel, as both countries continue to review their existing bilateral cooperation. The fifth meeting of the High-Level Core Group is scheduled to be held in Male, further strengthening ties between the two nations.
India and the Maldives have already agreed on solutions to ensure the continued operation of Indian aviation platforms, which provide humanitarian and medical evacuation services. The removal of Indian troops from the Maldives was a key election promise of Mohamed Muizzu’s party. As part of the current setup, around 70 Indian troops, along with aircraft and helicopters, are stationed in the Maldives.
