Customs officials seized 12.095 kg of gold worth ₹7.58 crore from 10 air passengers at an international airport, acting on specific intelligence from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). The gold, found in various forms including chains hidden in socks and undergarments and gold paste, was confiscated under The Customs Act, 1962.
The passengers, arriving from Dubai and Abu Dhabi, were arrested and remanded in judicial custody at Central Prison, Puzhal. This significant bust highlights ongoing efforts to curb gold smuggling.
