The Madras High Court has ordered that not only the Kilambakkam bus stand but also four others to be constructed at Koothambakkam, Venpakkam, Varadarajapuram, and Mamallapuram should be universally accessible. The directive came in response to a public interest litigation petition highlighting the lack of universal accessibility at the Kilambakkam bus stand.
The court received an access audit report for Kilambakkam, revealing 17 deficiencies, with the CMDA already issuing work orders for seven. The remaining 10 deficiencies are set to be addressed within two months. The court emphasized compliance with the 2021 guidelines and standards for universal accessibility and called for a CMDA compliance report by March 25.
