Leopard Sightings Heighten Concerns in Ponmudi, Kerala
For the second time within a few days, a leopard was sighted in the hill station tourist destination of Ponmudi in the state capital district of Kerala. Around 7:15 am on Wednesday, the leopard was spotted behind a government school by a female cooking staff member, prompting the locals to be alerted. Forest officials arrived at the scene and ventured into the nearby forest area, but were unable to locate the elusive animal.
This incident follows a sighting last Tuesday when a leopard was observed crossing the road near the Ponmudi police station around 8 am. Ponmudi, situated approximately 60 km from the capital city and boasting an altitude of 1,100 meters, is a popular retreat for residents of the capital, raising concerns about human-wildlife conflicts in the area.
