Kuwait set Farewell to Late Emir Sheikh Nawaf

Kuwait laid to rest its late Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah, who served for six decades in various public service roles, including minister of defence and interior. The funeral, attended by dignitaries worldwide, was marked by the presence of the new ruler, Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah.

Sheikh Nawaf’s three-year reign, cut short by ill health, followed his brother Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, who reigned for 14 years and significantly shaped Kuwait’s foreign policy.

The late emir was perceived as a consensus-builder, working to mend strained relationships between the parliament and government. The new ruler, Sheikh Meshal, is expected to continue key Kuwaiti foreign policies, maintaining close ties with the U.S. and balanced relationships with regional powers.
